Introspection.
| Therapist: | Would you ever treat someone or talk to someone the way you treat and talk to yourself? |
| Client: | [Shakes head.] |
| Therapist: | Are you attracted to people who treat you similarly to the way you treat yourself. People who don't respect you? People who don't appreciate how beautiful and amazing you are? |
| Client: | [Crying] Yes. |
| Therapist: | We think that because these people treat us the way we treat ourselves that it is love, when, in reality, you don't love yourself. The way you treat yourself is not the way you treat those that you love. Change the way you speak to yourself. It is only by learning how to love yourself that you'll find out what true love is. | This was on Bravo's "Workout" and I found it to be a mildly life changing perspective. You seek others you treat you similarly to the way you treat yourself... and by treating yourself differently you'll attract, and be attracted, to new, and better, people. |
